Beach Style can be fabulous. It is generally a very casual eclectic look, you know the type; seashells, sky blue or nautical themes. However, living on or the near the waterfront can be interpreted differently. In this ocean front Santa Monica condominium, the client
wanted clean lines, easy maintenance and a casual lifestyle, but with less clutter and without the usual beach theme. To reflect the coastal area without compromising style, we used a sophisticated earthy brown porcelain tile with a full grain cowhide texture. You have to touch it to know it is not leather. To add pizzazz to the entry, we accented the brown tile at the corners with pewter frames and hand made coppery glass tile inlay . With the sinuous overhead light fixture spotlighting the glass tiles, they glow like a sunset lit from within. The tile is installed on a diagonal to visually widen the
rooms.
The walls are bathed with a warm grey as if the silver lining of clouds on a sunny day are reflected right onto the walls. The fireplace has been refaced in Galaxy Black granite, which adds
a sense of a starry night with sparkling specks of
copper drifting through it.
In the kitchen Labrador Antique granite countertops with a full height back splash is easy to care for, adds drama and a luxurious flourish to an otherwise small but functional space. The cabinets continue the coastal awareness in a “driftwood on the beach” color
that enhances the granite, stainless steel sink and appliances.
